On February 28, 2025, a groundbreaking ceremony was held to commemorate the start of construction on the Higashi Izu Furusato Wind Power Plant in Higashi Izu Town, Shizuoka Prefecture.

This project involves the removal of outdated wind turbines and the installation of new, modern wind power facilities at the same location. The aim is to improve energy generation efficiency while preserving the symbolic white windmills that have long been cherished by the local community for their picturesque contrast against the blue sea.

The initiative is a joint effort between Higashi Izu Town and Higashi Izu Wind Power Godo Kaisha—a partnership between the wpd Group (Note 1) and the GPSS Group (Note 2). It also marks GPSS Group’s inaugural wind power plant construction project.

The planned facility will have a capacity of approximately 7.48 MW, sufficient to supply electricity to around 4,500 households annually. The wind turbines to be installed will be Enercon E-82 models.

In attendance at the ceremony were representatives from Higashi Izu Town, the local Shirata Ward, project stakeholders, construction contractor Achiha Corporation, and staff from the Higashi Izu Certified Children’s School. GPSS Group, which engages children in energy education programs at the school, emphasized the importance of fostering community understanding and participation in renewable energy initiatives.

Held under a clear winter sky, the event symbolized a strong commitment to the transition toward a sustainable society.
